PowerStack wins Gold at Australian Good Design Awards

Monday, 11 September 2023

Sydney, NSW: PowerStack has won a coveted Gold Australian Good Design Award for the 2023 event. With more than 900 entries across the awards for this year, the modular, vertical solar design succeeded in achieving not only a Good Design Award, but was given gold status in its category, ‘Product Design - Furniture and Lighting’.

The awards aim to recognise and ‘showcase the very best in design and innovation to a worldwide audience’. Submissions are reviewed under three overarching criteria: ‘Good Design’, ‘Design Innovation’ and ‘Design Impact’, with the latter looking at the potential of a product or design to positively impact communities and the environment.

This year celebrates 65 years of the Australian Good Design Awards, with the winning recipients decided by an impressive jury, featuring representatives from innovative brands and organisations such as AppleMirvacGenslerWoods Bagot, Aurecon and The New York Times

PowerStack’s submission highlighted that the vertical solar pole system provides a sustainable, 100% off-grid energy supply for applications such as safety and architectural lighting, CCTV, IoT sensors, communications networks, and device charging. Such applications enhance public safety, security and connectivity, and by using PowerStack, do so with minimal impact to the environment.

PowerStack’s co-founding director, Nathan Giblett commented,

‘It’s fantastic to be recognised by the Australian Good Design Awards. We’re an Australian designed product with a focus on sustainable infrastructure - that benefits communities and the environment, so winning this feels like the culmination of the hard work we’ve put in over the last few years.’

The solar poles enable end users to reduce carbon emissions through 100% off-grid power production, and use a unique concrete-free foundation. This system can be installed by a two person team in under an hour with no heavy machinery, minimising impact to the environment and surrounding communities. Recent projects have seen PowerStack provide remote power for applications such as bushfire monitoring and ‘turtle friendly’ marina lighting, with an application for an remote emergency help point recently launched.

PowerStack, along with other winning submissions was celebrated at an award ceremony in Melbourne on Friday 8th September.
