CASE STUDY:
TURN-KEY SECURITY SOLUTION for busy trucking depot

GSA HAVE DELIVERED A TURN-KEY SECURITY SOLUTION THAT HAS SAVED THE INTEGRATOR TIME ON-SITE WHILE SAFEGUARDING BUSINESS OPERATIONS AT A BUSY TRUCKING DEPOT

ISSUE:

Western Freight Management, a large-scale trucking business who operate along the east coast of Australia had just finished the construction of a purpose-built freight yard and distribution centre in Queensland. Designed to operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, the yard will be frequented by trucks and their drivers around the clock and can contain millions of dollars of freight and equipment at any given time.

Western Freight Management required a commercial grade security solution that would continuously capture, in detail, the ongoing activity of this busy depot.

Furthermore, the solution needed to be easy to operate by the business owners as well as their security team.

They system needed to Cover:

  • WEIGH BRIDGE OPERATIONS: Ensuring all tyres for the vehicles being weighed are securely within the weigh bridge area. Strict requirements are enforced for vehicle weighing and the business needs to be able to provide evidence that this process is being conducted in line with industry standards.
  • NUMBER PLATE RECOGNITION: Tracking of vehicles entering and departing the yard including company and private vehicles.
  • LONE WORKER SECURITY: Ensure the continued safety of staff, vehicles and freight while onsite with loan workers being easy to monitor as they move through the depot.
  • REDUCTION IN VANDALISM AND THEFT: Authorised personnel need to be easily identified via video feeds and tracked while onsite, reducing the likelihood of theft and/or vandalism from unauthorised access.

THE SECURITY INTEGRATOR:

Shane Innes of Controlled Access Solutions, the trusted security integrator who services Western Freight Management across its existing network of depots, was contacted to design and install a security solution that would meet the client’s requirements: providing clear visibility and tracking of operations on site.

SOLUTION:

Working with GSA as the equipment distributor, Innes discussed the requirements of the system with GSA’s NSW team. In return, GSA designed a system that would ensure a turn-key solution was delivered that was capable of meeting, and where possible, exceeding the client’s expectations.

“This security system will play a key role in ensuring not only the security of the yard, but also the safety of Western Freight Management’s staff – while that’s not something you can put a dollar figure on – we worked to ensure this system was both functional and cost competitive,” explained Blake Belcastro, GSA Systems NSW Business Development Manager.

Equipment:

With the core capabilities of the system in mind and  Innes’ familiarity with Hanwha Vision’s products, GSA proposed a total system solution including:

Hanwha | Wisenet 4K LPR/ANPR IR VANDAL DOME CAMERA
PNV-A9081RLP

Quantity supplied: 4
These AI equipped license plate recognition cameras track all vehicles entering and departing the depot.

Hanwha | Wisenet P-SERIES 8M H.265 PTRZ MULTI-DIRECTIONAL CAMERA
PNM-9084QZ:

Quantity supplied: 4
PTRZ (Pan-tilt-rotate-zoom) equipped multi sensor cameras which offer 360-degree viewing while only requiring a single WAVE license per camera. These powerhouse cameras offer customisable viewing options, are more compact and weigh less than traditional PTRZ cameras.

Quantity supplied: 30 combined
Reliable and cost-effective, these all-round cameras were selected for the bulk of the day-to-day activity monitoring in and around the yard. Their 5mp lens ensured that the daily activity was captured in high definition, while remaining a cost-effective option for bulk purchasing.

Verge | PRECIPICE V550 SERVER WITH DELL NEXT BUSINESS DAY PROSUPPORT
V550

Hanwha | WISENET WAVE 5.1 VIDEO MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

To enable all camera feeds to be seamlessly viewed in a single customisable screen. This light-weight software is powerful enough to manage multiple camera feeds, including feeds from alternate depots, without being processor intensive. It is also user-friendly and easy to operate for the business owners and their security staff.

PERIPHERALS:

These items were selected for their reputation for reliability and their ability
to perform to the high calibre expected in a commercial-grade security solution
“I really enjoy working with Hanwha products because I know they are user friendly and reliable. My clients need dependable equipment, but also equipment that is easy to operate and I find those qualities in Hanwha products,” Innes explained when asked why he favours Hanwha cameras in his security solutions.
“Pairing that with a Verge V550 server that comes with Dell next business day service made me confident that in the unlikely event that there was an issue, I would have quick access to a realistic repair or support should the issue extend beyond GSA’s capability to resolve,” he continued.

Additional Benefits:

With WAVE 5.1 supporting ONVIF IP cameras, Controlled Access Solutions were able to integrate the video feeds from Western Freight Management’s other depots located across Australia (some of which are running older style security equipment and cameras) into one simple to use and view interface.

Now, security personnel and the business owners alike, are able to view all locations in a single, customisable window. This ensures that key tasks are tracked, recorded and undertaken safely and that all activities, such as weigh bridge operations, can be verified as having met industry standards.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:

In addition to the supply of the system, Controlled Access Solutions made use of GSA’s complementary pre-commissioning services which saved them between eight and ten hours of commissioning work on site. As part of this, GSA inspected, IP named and commissioned all thirty-eight cameras and accompanying Verge server, ensuring that Innes and his team could ‘plug and play’ the solution shortly after installation.

Following installation, GSA’s local Systems Engineer was able to remotely access the site to verify the setup was correctly configured. This provided Innes and the team peace of mind that their deployment was aligned with Verge requirements and that the system would perform in line with expectations.

OUTCOME:

The system has been deployed and is now fully operational across the depot. The end user, Western Freight Management, has been so impressed with the performance of the turn-key system that additional Hanwha cameras and Verge servers have already been integrated into their Sydney metro depot and discussions are in place to expand this solution to their regional NSW depot as well.
